That whole car ride home I was thinking, are we feeding her too much, is she not getting enough exercise or is it a combination of them both?
As a family we try to live a healthy lifestyle by staying active and Miley along with our two other goldens are always included in that active lifestyle.

Along with walks, Miley loves a good game of fetch in the backyard in the Spring...
During the summer she enjoys swimming in our pool...
We love taking hikes in the Fall...
In the Winter, Miley enjoys playing in the snow with her siblings...
This winter has been especially rough here in Massachusetts with our time outside being limited, I believe this is where her weight gain has come from.
Weight gain is a touchy subject for humans and pets alike. Sometimes it's a lack of exercise and/or a poor diet. Pets definitely have a harder time burning off the calories they eat which can lead to extra pounds. This extra weight can lead to health issues and that's why I know it's so important to address her weight issue now before it gets out of hand and leads to more serious problems.
That's where Hill's® Science Diet® Perfect Weight comes in.
Hill's Pet is going to help us lead Miley in her journey to her perfect weight. For more than 70 years Hill's has pledged to enrich and lengthen the relationships people have with their pets. They believe the best thing you can do for your pet's health is feed them proper nutrition every day.
For the next 10 weeks we will be feeding Miley the Hill's Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight dog food which is available for purchase at Pet360.com with an additional discount on Autoship.

This is our first blog post of four that we will be doing to share Miley's journey on her 10 Week Turnaround to her Perfect Weight.
Here she is at her current weight of 90lbs
We would like to see Miley's weight somewhere in the 80's. I know this is going to take a family effort. When you have two other dogs in the normal weight range and two daughters that are known to sneak Miley a treat or two, it's a lot easier said than done. Everyone needs go be on the same page for this to be successful so here's our plan and goals for the next 10 weeks.
You can follow Miley's journey here on the blog as well as our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages, as I will be sharing her progress all along the way.

Wish us luck!
Good luck but I am sure as soon as the wether improves all that making up for being stuck indoors will see that weight fall off in no time. Have a terrific Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Thanks Molly! We can't wait for the warmer weather, it will definitely help a lot! :)
DeleteWe have a certain white dog in our pack that has the same problem, we just know you can do it Miley!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Uh oh! Thanks for your encouragement!
DeleteLooking forward to the slimmer version coming up! Mom thought I had added a pound or two, but at the vet, I was right on at 38 where I have been since I was one, so no diet for me...phew...
ReplyDeleteThat's great news, Emma! Mom is looking forward to feeling less "wrinkles"! BOL!
DeleteI fight with weight issues myself. Sometimes it seems no matter what I eat, or how much I move it won't budge. My lab was in the 90's too. My poodle eats what he wants and stays slim. What about genetics? What about health? one can be healthy even at a slightly higher weight. Happiness matters! I think swimmers carry a bit of extra fat to float! Also, how old is she? My lab's thyroid went out suddenly at age 8 and she gained weight. All this is to say, Miley is lovely and active and you're a good pupmom. LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words, LeeAnna! Miley is 6 years old, that interesting about the thyroid, I will have to keep that in mind when she goes back for a check up! I wish I could eat what I want and stay thin for sure! lol
DeleteI have the opposite problem with Mauja and Atka ;)
ReplyDeleteYour fluffies have great physiques!! :)
DeleteGood luck Miley! I am sure you will be able to shed a few pounds with your new plan.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We can't wait to start seeing a change!
DeleteGood luck! You are right on when you said that everyone needs to be on board in order for Miley to make her weight loss goal. I bet you'll have no problem! I look forward to the updates.
ReplyDeleteWeight loss is always easier when you have a plan and everyone is on board! Thanks for your encouragement! :)
DeleteGood luck Miley!! <3 She doesn't look that heavy in her photos! I would of never guessed she weighs 90lbs!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! There are some "rolls" hiding under all that fur!! lol
DeleteJoey dog here. My esteemed colleague Chester has been putting on some poundage lately. We both eat the same weight control yum yum doggie food. He just eats too much of it. I, however, have never had a problem with my weight. I would be glad to eat all his treats for him if it would help!
ReplyDeleteHow kind of you, Joey although I'm not sure Chester would agree!! lol I'm sure Maggie and Bruin would be happy to take over Miley's share of treats while she slims down! lol
DeleteGood for you & your family that you're tackling Miley's weight loss! Good luck & much fun doing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! We are looking forward to seeing a slimmed down Miley!
DeleteI would never have guessed that Miley is 90 pounds. Thunder is 95 and he is a large dog (26 inches at the withers). Best of luck on your journey.
ReplyDeleteYes, that fur is very deceiving, isn't it?! LOL Thank you for your well wishes!
DeleteLooking forward to watching your journey unfold!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nichole!
DeleteThis winter has definitely been challenging as far as getting exercise. Luckily our crew has pretty much maintained their normal weights (we cut back their food a little). We look forward to hearing how this goes for Miley....good luck!
ReplyDeleteJan & the crew at Wag 'n Woof Pets
Cutting back on their food is a great way to maintain their weight over the winter! Thanks for your kind words, Janet! :)
