The third week of April is designated National Pet Identification Week, it is a time to increase awareness in properly identifying our pets with ID tags and microchips in case they should stray from home.
Did you know that an estimated 10 millions dogs and cats are lost or stolen every year in the U.S.? This serious issue will affect 1 in every 3 pets, once in their lifetime. Scary, right?!
Here's the good news: according to the American Veterinary Medical Assoc., dogs with a registered microchip are 2.5 times more likely to be returned to its owner and cats are 21.4 times more likely.
To celebrate National Pet ID Week, more than 130 Pet Supplies Plus stores will be hosting free in-store microchip clinics at participating locations during the week of April 19-25th. Beginning April 11, customers making a $10 purchase will receive a voucher for a free microchip that can be redeemed during the scheduled time at their local store.
They are teaming up with VIP Petcare which provides preventative veterinary care via mobile clinics. Those locations without a vet partner will be assisting customers in finding a local clinic with low-cost or free microchip services. If no local vet is available, free pet ID tags and engraving will be offered in store.
You can find more information about your local Pet Supplies Plus offerings by visiting their website and store locator.
We have quite a few Pet Supplies Plus locations here in MA but have never visited one so we were happy to get an invite...
Inside we met the manager, Melissa where we discussed the importance of having your pet microchipped and having proper ID on your pets at all times in case they are lost.
We certainly couldn't leave the store without checking out the toy section...
What's better than three dogs browsing the toy section?

ReplyDeleteYou guys check out the toys, I'll check the treats! Katie and I are double chipped, one European chip and one US, Bailie only has a US chip. It is so important! Many don't know but most US readers can't scan European chips and some countries place them in different spots which is why Katie and I each have two.
