How Does Your Dog Catch a Fly Ball?

The goldens love playing fetch with their favorite ball but this weekend we thought we'd switch it up a bit to keep them on their toes paws, by throwing up some fly balls.

Bruin is a tall boy so he had to problem catching it square in the mouth...

Miley is a tiny bit shorter but a lot more dramatic...

Poor Maggie is much shorter and has a tough time keeping her eyes on the ball...

Does your dog like to play fetch or catch fly balls?

  1. Bailey loves catch. Katy is more of a soccer girl. She prefers her balls to be kicked.

  3. when we have the gall to throw a ball AT Cole he flinches, squints, then waits for it to roll before chasing it. He even misses food being thrown at him. Our lab could catch a cranberry in the dark.

  10. What great pictures and catches! Taffy and I love to play fetch! I've never been able to catch anything, treat, popcorn, ball nothing. Taffy can catch something on a dime, reflexes like an NFL player, not to mention she brings the ball back, something I think is totally wrong. Love Dolly

  11. Love the photos! I would have a million out takes. Hank catches the ball pretty well, but Tim isn't much of a catcher. Usually Tim just lets the ball hit him in the noggin and then picks it up off the ground. Go figure!

  13. Hahaha! These are great pictures! Miley's picture cracks me up and I think that is exactly how Leroy would like trying to catch a fly ball!

  14. Our dogs love fetch. We have Puller rings (10 of them I think) and we just throw them and the dogs give chase. When we're in the house, Scout will bring me a ball and I toss it in the air for him to catch. It doesn't take long for Rodrigo and Zoey to join in and Sydney just watches.

  15. Of us three girl, Sammie Jean is the only one that likes to play with balls and only if they have something that rattlers inside. Strange for dogs but what can wee say.

    Love ya.........Mommy's girls

  16. It's kind of funny...no matter how hard I tried...Chloe just never got the hang of playing with a ball...she prefers her little squirrels! LadyBug came to us as a Rescue and I don't think she even had toys. She doesn't like to play with anything...except other dogs or me! Your dogs have some awesome moves!!

  17. Great demo photos on "how to" catch fly balls. Harley is pitiful in that department, and Jax isn't a whole lot better. Leo was my fly ball champ, so I've got my work cut out for me with Jaxson!
