I have to admit the first thing I look for when choosing a dog shampoo is the scent. Is it going to smell good?
Well, that has all changed since being introduced to 4-Legger Organic Dog Shampoo.
Nearly two years ago, Melissa of 4-Legger lost one of her dogs to cancer and on that same day received news that her biopsy came back and she had breast cancer.
On a quest to look at the food we feed our dogs as well as the products we use on them, she discovered that so many "natural" products are not natural and the title "organic" is not truly that.
She found that some manufacturers take a few organic ingredients then combine them with sulfates to produce a product that sounds great but is not good for our dog's skin.
Now that Melissa has completed treatment and her cancer is in remission, she has taken on a mission to bring to the market products that don't just say "natural and organic" but really are.
4-Legger USDA Certified Organic Dog Shampoo
- Made up of organic ingredients such as oils, aloe vera, rosemary and lemongrass essential oils and rosemary extract.
- The Aloe & Lemongrass blend is safe and non-toxic for dogs of all skin types - from normal, sensitive, to dry and itchy as well as all ages, from puppy to adult.
- Veterinarian recommended for being natural, mild and hypoallergenic. 4 Legger is gentle enough to not strip oils for your dog's skin or coat.
- USDA certified organic to food standards, cruelty free and vegan.
- Made with high quality ingredients, selected for sustainability and low environmental impact.
- No GMO, herbicides, pesticides and no synthetic ingredients.
- Made in the USA
Unlike most shampoos I have used, with 4-Legger you only need a small amount and it rinses out so easily, making bath time quicker and easier.
The lemongrass scent not only makes your furry friend smell good but it has the ability to repel insects. Many natural pet products include it for its repellant effects on fleas and tics.
Here is Bruin after his bath. As you can see, 4-Legger has left his fur soft and shiny; check out that fluff-butt!

You know, we never even thought about checking the ingredients in the shampoo. We are like you and check the scent because we never want anything too perfumey. This product sounds great. I will have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI look for something that won't irritate my young puppy's skin and eyes. I want bath time to be as easy as possible.
ReplyDeletei look to make sure it's made in the USA...other than that I kind of just assume it's safe. I don't know much about shampoo ingredients!
ReplyDeleteWe love reading about organic shampoos!
ReplyDeleteI look for natural products at a reasonable price. Too many brands either contain ingredients that aren't the best for dogs, or are so overpriced that I can't afford them for my four rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds.
ReplyDeleteMom is going to have to check ours out. We are hoping we win a lemongrass one...ummmmmwe an already smell it!

ReplyDeleteFantastic Review!!! I love 4-Legger. I just gave a bottle to my friend and I'm curious about her thoughts. Being a blogger has opened my eyes to so many things. It started with flea & tick treatment, then diet, and now it's spread to everything else.
ReplyDeleteI only use all natural shampoo bars and 4-Legger dog shampoo on my pups.
I look for a shampoo made in the USA or Canada, without harsh chemicals, additives or artificial ingredients.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking for dog shampoo, I want it to be soothing, and help with dry, itchy, skin.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm usually attracted to neat looking bottles - if it's made in the USA that awesome and a bonus plus is if it has natural ingredients to repel bugs!

ReplyDeleteLemongrass, GMO-free and no animal products? Pawsome!
ReplyDeleteilook for specific things, no gmo's, no chemicals, all natural ingredients and where they are sourced, who makes it, i need something that whitens and brightens the white feathers and beards, so i usually use a combo of whitening and darkening, since they are black on the body. i also use conditioner, all natural flea/tick shampoos, my dogs have more shampoos than i do plus.
ReplyDeleteWe look at ingredients list.
ReplyDeleteWow, guess I haven't really thought about our dog shampoo. I just make sure that it's very gentle.
ReplyDeleteI always look at the ingredients first then for the type-depending on my dogs needs
