Healthy Super Bowl Dog Treats

If you're a football fan, this is probably your favorite weekend of the season and if you're a New England Patriots fan (like we are) or an Atlanta Falcon's fan I'm sure there is some game time planning going on when it comes to Super Bowl eats.

Like every year, we like to make a special treat for the Goldens since we always include them in our game day fun! The last time the Pats were in the Super Bowl, we made some bacon and cheese footballs and baked sweet potato chips.

This year we decided to keep the football theme but make them a little more healthy with just three simple ingredients that you most likely have on hand.

I've made these treats before for the Goldens and they LOVED them, I would normally just roll them in a ball shape but since it's for game day, we shaped them into a fun football shape.

Pumpkin, Peanut Butter and Oat Dog Treats

Ingredients: 1/2 cup Peanut Butter, 1 cup Pure Pumpkin, 3/4 cup Oatmeal

As I mentioned earlier, at this point I would normally just shape into round balls but today we are shaping them into fun football shapes. Just take a tablespoon of dough, place on parchment paper and shape into a football shape with two spoons. Add a few oats on top to give that football effect.

Pop them in the fridge to set up for about an hour (if your pups can wait that long) and viola! Your pups will be ready for game time!

I love how versatile this recipe is, they can be formed into any shape and size you'd like. The treats are soft and chewy so they are great for older dogs who have trouble chewing crunchy treats.

As with all treats - everything in moderation. With that said and since it's the Super Bowl, we may just sneak them an extra or two! Shhhh!

  10. The snacks look SO GOOD and the pups need snacks during puppy bowl! I know I probably do not need to tell you this but for others - be sure there is NO xylitol in the peanut butter you use! It is toxic to pets.
I am going to make this for my pup. It is amazing how easy it is to make our own doggie treats and so much healthier than those in the store!
    Love this!

  20. Those look delicious! I love how you made them look like little footballs. Your dogs had to have gone crazy for them. My kitties got some of their favorite treats inside kitty puzzle toys for a treat during the big game. They were definitely the winners of the night as they entertained all of our friends. :)
