International Pooper Scooper Week: Do Your Doody!

Yup, you read that right.

Nobody likes to talk about it and sadly there are some who don't do it.

This week is International Pooper Scooper Week. It's an entire week dedicated to raising awareness of why dog owner's need to poop the scoop!

The Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists (aPaws) was founded in February 2002 by a group of pooper scoopers who believe every dog should have it's day. In recognition of a growing problem in our communities and environment, aPaws established a special week of educating pet owners on the importance of cleaning up after their dogs.

aPaws estimates that pet pooches produce over 4.4 billion pounds of waste per year. That's enough to cover 900 football fields with 12 inches of dog waste!

Why You Should Do Your Doody!

  • Dog waste can pose a big health hazard due to the number of parasites, including roundworms that can be transmitted through dog feces. Parasite infections can cause serious harm to unborn babies and make humans very sick.

  • When the feces are not picked up, the eggs of the rounds worms or other parasites can stay in the soil for YEARS!

  • Children are susceptible to infection by playing in the dirt at a playground by putting their hands in their mouth or wiping their eyes.

  • Along with children, adults can just be easily effected by playing frisbee or any sport at the local park.

Pet waste is a thing all dog owners have to deal with but it's one of the easiest solutions that we, ourselves can control if everyone does their part at home and when your out in the community.

With Earth day coming up in just a few weeks, now would be a great time to purchase some biodegradable poop bags to help reduce your dog's carbon pawprint!

Attached to the Golden's leash, in our vehicle, in my walking belt, we keep these bags everywhere because you never know when nature is going to call. It's always best to be prepared than be sorry!

  1. People not scooping their dog's poop is my biggest pet peeve. I just can't understand how anyone can just leave it where others can step in it. It is disgusting. We will definitely write about it this week too!

  2. I need to show this to my neighbor who NEVER picks up his poop. I have asked him nicely and even not-so-nicely and he NEVER does it. Plus he has a HUGE dog so you can imagine the piles out there that WE have to pick up! DakotasDen

  3. People in our neighborhood are mostly pretty good about picking up after their doggies.
